Grade 10 FRENCH 10 (MFR--10) Recommended prerequisite: French 9 or teacher permission French 10 is a course designed to continue developing students' French language skills in all areas of the language with the use of ANL (neuro-linguistic approach) and the Post-Intensive French Strategies and Themes. Post-Intensive French focuses on natural, personalized, and authentic interactions, literacy-based learning, project-based learning and a balance of fluency and accuracy. Themes in this course may include describing one’s memorable experiences and activities, as well as sharing future and goals. Students will also learn to communicate about the impacts of information technology as well as their habits and preferences regarding shows, movies, and special effects. Throughout the course, students will continue to develop their understanding of French vocabulary, grammatical structures, and verb tenses as well as Francophone culture.
SCIENCES HUMAINES 10 (FSCH-10) Recommended prerequisite: successful completion of French 9 Sciences Humaines 10 provides students with the opportunity to increase their proficiency in French while examining Canadian politics and history from 1914 CE to the present using historical thinking skills. Topics include the World Wars as well as Canada’s role in international conflict, and cooperation, discriminatory government policies in Canada including the residential school system, the development of Canadian identities, and the Canadian political system. After Sciences Humaines 10, students enroll in one of the Grade 12 options to complete the Social Studies graduation requirements. Note: Students who complete Sciences Humaines 10 may advance to French 11
Grade 11 INTRODUCTORY FRENCH 11 (MFRI-11) Core French Introductory 11 focuses on developing communication competencies in the French language, exploring Francophone communities and cultures within Canada and around the world, exploring identity, and engaging in the range of opportunities and experiences that developing proficiency in French provides . Note: Introductory French 11 does not count as a university admission language 11 credit for some universities
FRENCH 11 (MFR—11) Recommended prerequisite: French 10, Introductory French 11, Sciences Humaines 10, or teacher permission French 11 is a course designed to further develop students' French skills in all areas of the language with the use of ANL (neuro-linguistic approach) and the Post-Intensive French Strategies and Themes. Post-Intensive French focuses on natural, personalized and authentic interactions, literacy-based learning, project-based learning and a balance of fluency and accuracy. Themes in this course may include photography, tourism, Francophone countries of the world and career interests and opportunities. Throughout the course, students will continue to develop their understanding of French vocabulary, grammatical structures, and essential verb tenses to communicate in the past, present, future and in hypothetical situations. Various elements of Francophone culture will continue to be studied. Note: French 11 counts as a university admission language 11 credit. Note: The DELF exam is available for students
INTRODUCTORY SPANISH 11 (MBSP-11) Introductory Spanish 11 is an intensive introduction to Spanish as a Second language where students are engaged in the learning experience. Students will learn language through speaking, writing, listening, reading, and interacting in Spanish. Purposeful grammar is taught within the context of many themes, such as describing self, family, life at school, pass-times, daily activities, and food. Students will learn and explore various cultural and regional aspects of the Spanish-speaking this world. This course is a prerequisite for Spanish 11. Note: Beginner Spanish 11 does not count as a university admission language 11 credit for some universities. SPANISH 11 (MSP--11) Recommended Prerequisite: Introductory Spanish 11 or equivalent Note: Special Permission can be granted to take Spanish 11. Spanish 11 further develops the present tense in Spanish and we also move into the past tense and future tense. Students will learn language through speaking, writing, interacting and reading in Spanish. Purposeful grammar is taught within the context of many themes such as cooking, festivals and celebrations, travel, music and describing memorable moments in their life, in order to communicate meaning. As well, students will further develop their vocabulary and oral competency of idiomatic expressions. Students continue to learn and discover various elements of life and culture in the Spanish-speaking world. Note: Spanish 11 counts as a university admission language 11 credit.
Grade 12 French 12 (MFR--12) Recommended prerequisite: FR 11 or equivalent French 12 is a course designed to advance students' French skills in all areas of the language with the use of ANL (neuro-linguistic approach) and the Post-Intensive French Strategies and Themes. Post-Intensive French focuses on natural, personalized, and authentic interactions, literacy-based learning, project-based learning and a balance of fluency and accuracy. Students will further advance their language skills and overall fluency through listening, reading, writing, and communicating, including comprehensive conversations about familiar and new topics. Themes in this course may include routines, goals and personal projects, autobiography project, environmental issues, current events, travel, as well as an inquiry project related to the French speaking world. Throughout the course, students will advance their understanding of French vocabulary, grammatical structures, and verb tenses. Note: French 12 counts as a university admission language 11 credit. Note: The DELF exam is available for students
